At Glenn Bashaw Photographer, one of the most rewarding aspects of my work as a Norfolk commercial photographer and Norfolk branding photographer is helping businesses present themselves with confidence, professionalism, and authenticity. Every branding session is an opportunity to create more than great photographs—it's an opportunity to tell the story of the people behind the business and help them build meaningful connections with the clients they serve.
Recently, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Carrie Long of Carrie on Homes, a successful real estate team with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. What made this session especially meaningful wasn't simply updating headshots or creating new team portraits—it was the opportunity to continue a professional relationship that began nearly a decade ago.
When Carrie first entered the real estate industry almost ten years ago, she trusted me to create her very first professional headshot. At the time, she was building her personal brand and establishing herself in a competitive market. Fast forward to today, her business has grown, her team has expanded, and it was time to refresh not only her own professional image but also create a cohesive collection of branding photographs that reflect the professionalism, personality, and collaborative spirit of the entire Carrie on Homes team.
For me, this session represented something much bigger than creating updated portraits. It was a reminder that great branding photography grows alongside a business. As companies evolve, teams expand, and brands mature, their visual identity should evolve as well. Professional photography isn't a one-time investment—it's an ongoing tool that helps businesses build trust, communicate their values, and create strong first impressions across their websites, social media, marketing materials, and client communications.
Moments like these are why I love what I do. Seeing clients return years later and entrust us with the next chapter of their business is one of the greatest compliments I can receive. It's incredibly rewarding to know that the relationships built during a photography session can last for years, and that the images we create continue to support the growth of a business long after the camera is put away.
While individual headshots are an important part of professional branding, cohesive team photography tells a much larger story about your business. It communicates who you are as an organization, reflects your company culture, and helps potential clients understand that they're working with an established, experienced team rather than a single individual.
In today's digital-first world, prospective clients often form an opinion about a business before they ever make a phone call or schedule a meeting. Your website, Google Business Profile, and social media channels are often the first impression they receive. When your team is represented with professional, consistent imagery, it immediately conveys credibility, professionalism, and attention to detail. It demonstrates that you take pride not only in the services you provide but also in how you present your business to the world.
For businesses built on relationships—especially real estate teams like Carrie on Homes—this is incredibly important. Buying or selling a home is one of the most significant financial decisions a person will make, and clients want to feel confident in the professionals they choose to guide them. Seeing a cohesive team of knowledgeable, approachable professionals helps establish that confidence before the first conversation ever takes place.
Our goal for the Carrie on Homes session was to create branding imagery that felt authentic, approachable, polished, and consistent across every member of the team while reinforcing the professionalism and trusted reputation of the Howard Hanna brand. Rather than simply photographing individuals, we created a unified visual identity that reflects the team's collaborative approach and commitment to serving their clients.
The value of professional team photography extends far beyond a single photoshoot. These images become versatile marketing assets that support virtually every aspect of a business, including:
I believe professional branding photography is one of the smartest marketing investments a business can make. Unlike many forms of advertising that have a short lifespan, professional imagery continues working for your business every day. It builds trust, strengthens your brand, creates consistency across every platform, and helps clients connect with the people behind your business long after the photography session is complete.
Professional branding and team photography isn't just for real estate professionals.
Businesses across Hampton Roads benefit from updated, consistent imagery, including:
If your clients are researching you online before they contact you—and today, almost all of them are—professional photography plays an important role in building credibility and trust.
One thing I hear consistently from clients is that they don't enjoy having their picture taken.
That's perfectly normal.
In fact, many of the people I photograph tell me they're nervous before their session begins. Whether they're stepping in front of the camera for the first time or simply don't enjoy being photographed, my goal is to make the experience relaxed, enjoyable, and stress-free.
My job isn't simply to operate a camera.
It's to create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
When people relax, authentic expressions naturally follow. Those genuine moments are what create portraits that feel approachable, confident, and engaging—not stiff, forced, or overly posed.
Those qualities are particularly valuable in relationship-driven industries like real estate. Clients aren't just choosing a company—they're choosing the people they'll trust to guide them through one of life's most important decisions. Professional photography helps establish that trust long before the first meeting or phone call, creating a strong first impression that reflects the confidence, expertise, and personality of the team.
One of the greatest compliments I can receive isn't simply a positive review.
It's when a client comes back years later because they remember the experience just as much as they remember the photographs.
As a photographer, I believe great images are only part of what makes a successful session. Building trust, creating a comfortable environment, and developing lasting relationships with my clients are equally important. Those relationships are what make this profession so rewarding.
Working with Carrie again nearly a decade after photographing her very first professional headshot was a perfect example of that. Watching her career grow, seeing her build a successful real estate business, and then having the opportunity to photograph her expanding team was both rewarding and humbling. It's a reminder that branding photography isn't just about documenting where a business is today—it's about growing alongside that business as it evolves.
After our recent branding session, Carrie shared these thoughtful words in her Google review:
"I met Glenn when I first started in real estate and he did my first ever headshot. Now, almost 10 years later, when it was time for me to update my shot AND do new pictures for my team, he was the first person I thought of to call. He was so easy to communicate and collaborate with as always, and he made everyone so comfortable on the shoot, which shone through in the photos. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a photographer who will bring out the best in you!"
Reviews like this mean so much because they speak not only to the quality of the images, but to the relationships built over time.
Photography is about people first.
The imagery helps tell their story.
Your people are your greatest asset.
The way they're presented should reflect the quality, professionalism, and care they bring to every client interaction.
Whether you're updating your own headshot, photographing a growing team, or refreshing your company's visual brand, professional photography is an investment that continues working across every platform where your business is seen.
